Stop Hunger Now!
On Sunday, April 12 we plan to do our part. Our goal is to package 35,000 meals (Really!) in our Family Life Center between 2 and 4pm. Unbelievably, we can purchase all of this dehydrated food for only $10,000. Open Hearts – the ministry that keeps on giving – has already committed $5,000. Our Faith in Action team has committed $2,000. Do the math and that means all we lack is two things: 1. $3,000; and 2. 125 volunteers for two hours to package the food. Would you be willing to be a part of feeding 35,000 hungry people? Would you be willing to donate your money? Your time? You can make your check to FUMC Boerne and on the memo line write “Stop Hunger Now.” And, you can sign-up each Sunday in our Narthex or call the church office and we’ll be glad to sign you up. You can also sign up online. What a great opportunity to hear Jesus say, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” - Rev Dr Ricky Burk
New Youth Minister appointed
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Wes Cain as our new Director of Student Ministry. Please see his resume attached. You will see that Wes comes to us with the experience, education, and outstanding references for a quality ministry. He was referred to us by District Superintendent Bill Henderson and interviewed by and found the endorsement of our SPRC, your clergy, and Interim Director Kenne Woods. Wes is currently under appointment at another church in our Conference and, along with his wife Jessica and their son James, will be moving into our church parsonage during the month of June. In the near future I plan to bring Wes and his family to our church for an introduction. Until then Kenne and Amy will continue to do their outstanding ministry for us. Kenne has offered to assist Wes during the first few months of transition. Amy will be leaving us soon as she will graduate from UTSA in May. SPRC will soon begin the process of selecting her replacement. We are deeply grateful to Kenne and Amy for their love and support of our youth. Please join me in giving God thanks for supplying our need of a quality person and minister to meet the needs of our students!" - Rev Dr Ricky Burk
In the seasons of Lent and Easter, the church focuses on remembering, retelling and participating in the story of the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Lent, the period of 40 days before Easter (excluding Sundays), begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Saturday, the evening before Easter.
During Lent, we enter into a season of preparation, self-reflection and repentance when we seek to literally “turn around” and realign our lives and focus toward God. It is a time to give up things as well as take on new life-giving practices, helping us rid ourselves of distractions and our own selfish desires. By doing so, we seek to live and love as more faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Easter Season, also known as Eastertide or the Great Fifty Days, begins on Easter Day and ends on Pentecost. Focusing on Christ's resurrection and ascension and the sending of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost), Eastertide is the most joyous and celebrative season of the Christian year. We celebrate the good news that in Christ’s death and resurrection we, and all creation, are continually being made new by God’s love and saving grace.
2015 Lenten Schedule
Many classes are offering special Bible studies for Lent. Now is a great time
to find an adult Sunday School class.
Special Contemplative Lenten Season Services will be offered Wednesday evenings from through April 4 in the Chapel at 6:15pm. Make it an easy evening for the family cook by coming first for dinner in the Family Life Center at 5:30 pm.
