PASTOR'S CORNER

The dog days of summer are definitely here. Temperatures are rising, people are traveling to exciting places and summer activities are in full swing. God is busy at work at FUMC-Boerne! Our VBS was a wonderful success with 264 children and 130 adult volunteers! Our Uganda mission team just completed a two week mission trip which involved mercy bag evangelism (over 30 were baptized and 50 made first time professions of faith!), ministry to children, men and women. Both our Jr. and Sr. High youth groups have been busy doing mission work with other youth from around Southwest Texas. These and other activities are concrete, tangible ways that the Body of Christ at FUMC-Boerne have been reaching out and touching hearts and transforming lives in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. What about you? Are you plugged in to one or more of the many vital ministries at FUMC? — Blessings, Pastor Paul

ANNUAL CONFERENCE
1300 clergy and lay delegates gathered June 4-7 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi for the annual meeting of the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. The delegates heard reports about church membership, reports and proposals concerning the monitoring of clergy & congregational effectiveness, and to adopt several conference organization reports and processes. With mixed emotions, we listened as Conrad presented his retirement address – by all reviewers "the best presentation of the 15 clergy that retired this year." Also announced was the result of the conference-wide "Offering Christ Today for Tomorrow" capital campaign -- raising $6,529,832. This money will be used for New Church Development and Transformation. Clergy delegates representing FUMC-Boerne included Conrad Archer, Paul Evans, Fred Martin, Russell Miller. Lay delegates included Judy Archer, Tom Butler, Ann Harkins, Gervin Harkins, Charlie Lloyd, Diane Morrow, Jack Morrow and Rory Sheppard.

Church Office Summer Hours: Beginning June 20, 2008, the offices will close at noon on Fridays.

YOUR LIVING LEGACY
The gifts you make in your estate plan can carry on your charitable support long after your passing. An estate plan allows you to choose the type of legacy you would like to leave. There are several ways you can include a legacy gift to your church in your estate plan:

*Designate First United Methodist Church as a beneficiary in your will
*Make a contribution to the FUMC Endowment Fund
*Establish a fund named for your family
*Designate a gift of insurance
*Create a charitable remainder trust
*Make a contribution to the FUMC Capital Campaign

Reimbursements
Do you regularly make purchases for the church? The church is exempt from sales taxes and any taxes paid on your purchase can not be reimbursed to you. Stop by the church office to pick up a sales tax exempt form to use when shopping so that sales taxes won't be charged. Thanks, Lyn Stewart, Business Manager.
