Biography of Russell Miller
A native of Corpus Christi, Rev. Dr. Russell Miller served two United Methodist congregations in the Houston area before moving to Boerne, where he has been Minister of Music and Worship at First United Methodist Church since 1997. He has a background in choral, handbell, keyboard, and instrumental music.
Dr. Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Spanish from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas; and a Master of Music in Conducting from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. In addition, he has done graduate level theological studies at Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas, and holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in Arts and Theology from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Miller was consecrated a diaconal minister in the United Methodist Church in 1993, and ordained a deacon in full connection in 1997. He is a clergy member of the Southwest Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Russell and his wife, Sylvia, perform handbell duets under the name “Double Ring." Both also teach full studios of piano students. The Millers have two grown musical children, Adam and Sarah.
