Biography of Kimberly Burke
Reverend Kimberly Burke has served Buda UMC as Associate Pastor since June of 2005. She has been a Licensed Local Pastor since 2004 seeking Elders Orders. Kim served First United Methodist Church, San Marcos (her home church) from 2001 to 2005 as the Adult Ministries Director and is a certified Parish Christian Educator. Kim's interests include social justice advocacy, family, reading, teaching, fishing and golfing. She is married to Danny Burke who is employed by McCoy's Corporation in San Marcos. Kim and Danny have one child together 9 year old Jordan. In 2001 Kim left her position with the Hays Caldwell Women's center where she had been employed since 1991 to pursue ordination in the Methodist church. Her first love is and will always be advocating for the least, the last and the lost. In her many positions at the Women's Center, she worked with battered women and children of battered women, she became the Director of the Rape Crisis Center and focused her work on child survivors of abuse as well as working with adults abused as children. She served on the first advisory committee to bring CASA of Central Texas to the local area. In 1998, she founded Roxanne's House a children's advocacy center serving Hays and Caldwell counties focusing on the specialized needs of children. She worked diligently with local law enforcement and social service agencies to develop a multi disciplinary approach to child abuse investigations. As clergy, Kim has assisted with clergy sexual ethics trainings and currently serves on the Austin District Amos Commission which is dedicated to developing training and information on issues concerning poverty, health care for children and adults, and legislative action. She is very active in UMW and Church Women United where she has received various awards in leadership. Kim works on a team to develop the Austin District Preteen Camp. Last year Kim was one of eleven scholars chosen in the nation to receive the Georgia Harkness Scholarship Award. This group traveled to Honduras in December for a global women's summit to encourage women from third world countries who have heard the call to ordained ministry but are unable to fill that calling due to their cultural and political settings. Kim has served in many different aspects of ministry in the local church including children and adult ministries, spiritual formation, women's studies and retreats, evangelism, mission and outreach, Chrysalis, Emmaus, Kairos, preaching, pastoral care and conducting funerals and weddings. |
